I schaff beim Daimler! (I work for Daimler!)
Stuttgart is proud of its automobile constructors.

Stuttgart is home of the oldest automobile constructor worldwide and can look back on a 115 year long automobile history. This history is closely linked with the names Gottlieb Daimler, Carl Benz, Wilhelm Maybach and Ferdinand Porsche. Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach built their fast running petrol engine independently in 1886 into a carriage. This became the first automobile (automobile = driving by itself). It first drove the route Stuttgart – Cannstadt in 2887 at 18km/h. Carl Benz put the first two-stroke engine into gear and already in 1885 had fitted a three wheel carriage with a petrol engine. The Benz-ian motor car was registered at the imperial patent office on 29th January 1886. The first official ride of a car (this three wheel motor car) was made on the 3rd July 1886 along the Friedrichsring (Mannheim). The companies "Benz & Cie." and "Daimler Motorengesellschaft" merged in 1926 (after Daimler’s death) to become the Daimler-Benz AG. In 1922, Ferdinand Porsche became chief constructor at Daimler, later technical director and member of the board of management. He developed amongst others the legendary compressor sports cars Mercedes SS and SSK. In 1931 he founded the Porsche construction office in Stuttgart. Thereby he lay the foundation for the Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG of today. On behalf of NSU, Type 32 was created in 1932, in concept a forerunner of Volkswagen. Carriage master builder Gottlob Auwärter founded his own operation creating constructional systems especially for buses in 1932. The beginning of the  Auwärter-Neoplan firm of today. From 1928 until 1965, the Solitude race track was the location for motor sports events (motorbike and automobile).
