Information about Botnang

Wappen Botnang

The name Botnang first appeared on a certificate from 1075. The location belonged to the Church until 1483, and politically to Feuerbach until 1631. It was suburbanised on 1st April 1922. On the site of today’s Auferstehungskirche was for centuries an old Village church (built around 1450, finished 1754). During the Second World War the nameless place of worship was completely destroyed, in 1955 the “Resurrection Church” was built from the ruins. Even though the coat of arms shows a boar, the real emblem of Botnang is the cuckoo. The legend says that the duke of Württemberg heard a cuckoo call and wished for the people of Botnang to bring him the nest of this bird. He knew well that the nest of the cuckoo is the whole forest and so the people of Botnang had to surrender the forests around Botnang to him. Surrounded by forest which secures its inhabitants water as well as wood in sufficient quantities, Botnang was for a long time the washing and bleaching village for Ludwigsburg and Stuttgart.
