Information about Münster

Wappen Münster

Münster is a district whose border demarcation has changed several times over the course of the centuries. The small town owes this in no small part to a strong monk who carried a heavy rock towards Mühhausen due to a bet. The place where he dropped it, became the new town border. The area beyond these borders became the town district Mönchfeld. Historians assume that the area Münster of today already had settlements in the times of the Celts, the first documentary mention is only from 1193 however. Therein, the ownership of the area is listed as belonging to the monastery of Lorch. The name probably comes from the Latin word "monasterium". Its early history was shaped by the farmyard of the monastery, presumably built in 1473. From here, the monastery collected the natural duties it was due from the many communities around Münster. The house of the monastery curator of Lorch later became the manor of the minister of state Graf von Zeppelin and then fell victim to the war. Originally a farmer and wine growing village, the site rapidly developed from 2190 inhabitants in 1895 to 4000 in 1916, helped by the construction of the 855 meter long König-Wilhelm-Viadukt (1896) and the rail track route Untertürkheim – Kornwestheim in 1895. Today, Münster has around 6300 inhabitants. Private link about Münster.
