Information about Zuffenhausen

Wappen Zuffenhausen

Zuffenhausen, which lays on the ancient road of the Oberland to the Unterland, can look back on a long history. The oldest document in existence is by Pope Innozent III from the year 1204 and originated from Zuffenhausen. Excavations however revealed dwelling traces from the Early Stone Age. On 1st April 1931 Zuffenhausen was suburbanised. Today Zuffenhausen is far from being antiquated. Thanks to the train line from Stuttgart to Ludwigsburg and the settlement of a factory in the middle of the 19th century, Zuffenhausen developed from an agricultural oriented village to a sought-after industry centre. Well-known businesses, especially Porsche, have their factories here. Those who prefer it more quiet and rural has to go to the districts of Zuffenhausen; Neuwirtshaus and Zazenhausen. Here the Swabian cosiness has remained and so offers a family-friendly alternative to busy Zuffenhausen. The district Rot is known for its housing estates. The high rises there were considered the largest in Europe in the 60s. Especially noticeable are the two high-rises of Frank and Scharoun, their nicknames being Romeo and Juliet. The Johannes church of Zuffenhausen is a remainder from Carolingian times. It had completely burnt down in the Second World War and was only restored to its old appearance externally.
